Project objectives
The project was a research titled “Bridging the Gender Gap: Measure to Improve Women Participation in Higher Education Management in Nigeria”. The objective of the research project was to determine the reasons why there was a huge gap between senior male and female staff that perform the administrative roles in higher education management in Nigeria. The research set out to identify the degree of access to education and training created for senior female administrative and management staff of higher institutions by distance learning institutions. It also made recommendations that will help reduce the observable gap between male and female senior administrators in the management of higher institutions in Nigeria
Summary of the outcomes
The outcomes of the research project revealed the reasons why there was a huge gap between senior male staff and senior female staff that handled administrative roles in higher education management in Nigeria. Level of knowledge of the job, that is, the technical know-how; discipline, gender inequality and gender roles, are major reasons for the observable gap. The study also showed that the ODL mode of education enabled female staff to attend capacity building training and workshops while remaining on the job.
